First of all a very Happy new year to all of you.And as it was the first ride of the 2017 it should be different than the normal breakfast run.So what now?
Been to haripurdhar in June 2016 and it was a back breaking trip doing up and down on same day covering over 320 kms.Last time it was summer and now it was winters.Knew that there maybe snow and forecast cleared all doubts. So a SNOW RIDE TO HARIPURDHAR was created.Soon names started coming in whatsapp group and 15 of group members registered their names for the ride. Then we got 5 names from another group of harleys from Jagadhri. So it was around 20 riders and one thar as a back up vehicle.
2 days from the ride it started raining heavily in tricity.Friday evening it rained like hell than saturday too and at one the time the ride was on the verge of cancellation. Now it was a wise decision to cancel the ride owing to the bad weather and snowfall in upper areas but there is thing called GARARI which has got the best of me everytime and it was the same this time.I had to do it.with the group or solo didnt matter.Knew it was not a wise decision but you got to do what you got to do.Then got a message from Harry paaji that he will join in too.went to decathlon store and bought a rain gear for the journey.I was fool enough to ride in bad weather but not that fool to ride without the covers. At night the discussion in the group again started weather to go or not.It was still not sure that the group will ride or not.Got msg from another rider Tapan that he will join in too.So i knew that atleast i wont be going alone as two riders were going with me.
Assembly was to be at Suraj theatre parking at 6 and i was surprised to find that the group was already waiting there for the ride.It was supposed to be around 18-20 but still 13 made it.The one thing about the Brotherhood is they will never leave you alone plus noone wanted to miss the first ride of the new year.Jaskaran paaji with thar too came in and we were ready to roll. The harley gang was to meet us at kala amb as they were coming from Jagardhri. We took the Panchkula -naraingarh road and reached kala amb.It was cold and our fingers were numb so the first thing while waiting for others was to order garam chai. Its a life saver for riders and should be the national beverage.Had tea and snacks and did a bit of chit chat till the other riders came.Once they were there we started the journey towards Haripurdhar.Crossed nahan and then renukaji.Took some pics near the waterfall on the way and as we knew that it was still a long way to hariprdhar and back we didnt stop that much except for at renukaji to fix my broken fog light.
Road till nahan is good , from nahan to renukaji is a bit good and from renukaji its like what you should be expecting in areas which are landslide prone. As there was rain a day back there were lanslides on the way to sangrah. But motorcycles were able to cross the clearing JCBs easily, thar had to wait for them to clear it fully.Reached Sangrah at around 1 PM.Now the question was to weather eat first or try to reach haripurdhar and come back and eat.and this question cost us around an hour of our time.We took some cold drinks and samosas and started towards haripurdhar.Just a few kms from sangarh we were able to see the snow claded mountains.A few more kms the first patch of snow on road sides and just `18 kms from haripurdhar we saw what we came for.The roads were covered with snow but as there were vehicles plying there we were able to ride on the lines made by tyres. We rode for some 4 kms when we saw a huge rush of cars already there. The road from there was blocked by JCB as further it was still not cleared and on that single road there were cars , suvs and even a bus all in one lane.we decided to park our bikes at a distance and enjoy a walk on snow.It was cold, water going in the boots but at that moment none of that mattered.the gang was busy enjoying snow.Clicked a few pics .Had drinks and snacks and then saw a snow covered field near the parking spot.Went there and then the snowball fighting started. We spent a good hour and half there before we realised we have to move back too the same day.Started from there at around 3 and reached sangrah to have lunch. At the lunch time was alreay over had to wait for it.
It was already 4:30 by the time we left sangrah.Soon it was dark and the fog light came to use.The one fogs were covering the front and the rear and the ones without it were in the middle so that everyone is safe from the stones on the road that can lead to accidents on those stretches. The thar was again stopped at landslide clearing and could only catch us at jamta. The initial plan was to see off harley gang at jamta and take the nahan kumarhatti road to reach panchkula but as it was pitch black and roads were still wet we decided to opt for the same route we came from which is very rare given the fact we always take diff roads for arriving and leaving if there are options.Took the nahan road, said bye to harleys at Kala Amb and reached home at around 8:30
It was tiring and back breaking trip but one thing is for sure , riders who joined will be remembering this for sure. What once appeared to be a solo ended up a family fun with the gang.
