KALESAR NATIONAL PARK AND PAONTA SAHIB GURUDWARA.
SO its Saturday and i want to ride but to where?
last Sunday it was kikkar in Nurpur Bedi and then on monday it was barog so didnt want to go to that side.So open google map.saw paonta sahib.Had been there last year via nahan road.Checked other options and found a road to paonta from yamuna nagar side.A bit of research and found there was a Wildlife sanctuary on the way too.
So that was it.No more searching.
Ist thing was to ask the group if anyone is joining. No response.Commander was busy in family affairs and no one else was free.So it was likely to be a solo trip , which btw was a plus point for me as it would have been my 2nd solo trip in consecutive months but at the very last moment the newest member of the club kunal joined in.later another of his friends asked to come along and now we were three on the way to Paonta.
Plan was to start at 7 from zirakpur and meet the third rider Nav near Shehzadpur as he was coming from Ambala and the place was same distance from both zirakpur and ambala.Kunal reached the meeting point at 7:15 and we started the journey. The route taken was Zirakpur – barwala – Shehzadpur.Reached shehzadpur and called Nav who was waiting for us a few metres away.Greeted him and then started the journey towards Kalesar.
Went via Sadhaura , Bilaspur , chichroli and then khizrabad. Now acc to google map there were two roads from bilaspur to khizrabad.one via chichroli whcih was longer one with an extra 5-6kms and other bypassing chichroli, which was the initial route to be followed.but as per my previous exp using google maps i prefered to ask a shopkeeper in bilaspur about the route and got the right advice. The bypass road acc to him was in bad shape as there was construction work going on there and he suggested the chichroli route.Reached khizrabad and had breakfast there.A few kms ahead that was a board that read DEVI LAL HERBAL PARK .asked other riders if they were intrested and got a yes from both.went to the park and this was something not to be missed.First we thought it was just a park with some herbs and plant until i saw a peacock.Being new to photography i wanted to take a good and close shot of it but it kept running towards the denser part of the park.I followed and so did the other two riders. At a point there was a bridge where we lost the bird but it was a good place to take some clicks of ourselves and doing so i saw something in the jungle behind.Wow it was a herd of deers roaming around in open.No fences. As soon as tried to click them a few dogs started chasing them and then ran away but again the same keeda of getting them clicked i followed in hope of getting them.we walked around the whole place but couldnt find them. While coming back we choose the more denser trail and just some 50 metres from us there was something.Nav said paaji dog hai.I too saw it and said yes as it was a bit far and it looked like a dog but as soon as it jumped i knew it was a baby fox.It was so cute but again the same bad luck.before i could click a photograph the mother fox came into action and they both ran away from there too.So it was we saw a few unusual things but couldnt capture them.
We were already behind schedule because of the unplanned visit to the park and the happening thereafter so we decided to turn abck and start our journey towards Kalesar park.Just before the park there is a temple of Shiva known as Kalesar Mahadev Mandir. The name of park is taken from it.went to the temple , prayed and were about to leave when an uncle stopped us and said. You missed this temple here.and we were like ok no issue lets go there too and what we saw there was not to be missed and we though what kind of fools were we that we were going back without seeing this.
there was a small water tank there and there were two stones in it that were floating on water.and i was like What the Fish.Took a piece of wood and tried to push it into water. It went under water but came out in a few seconds.Still cant believe it.
FYI , the temple provides langar whole day to visitors so do eat there if you visit the temple.beware of the four legged , tree swinging friends though.
So after spending some time there started our ride towards paonta sahib which was another 15km from there and the 12km out of those is the Kalesar national park .Now what i have seen on google was that there are deers, neel gaye and people see tigers and elephants there but what panditji at the temple told us was the exact opposite.he said theres nothing of this sort here and the officals lie about it so that they can get visitors coming there based on those lies. But still the road was actually that awesome that we didnt care about seeing any animals.Plan was to reach paonta , eat some food there and then visit the bird sanctuary at Assan barrage but as we were already late and had already eaten at the temple we decided to first visit assan and then come back to paonta.Assan is a barrage on yamuna river and its a Bird viewing heaven.Once there i saw a line of water birds there. As far as i could see they were there.never seen so many at one place before.Clicked a few picks .Spent some time there and started back towards paonta.Reached paonta sahib gurudwara , offered our prayers had langar and started back.the journey back home was to be via Nahan – naraingarh road.Reached naraingarh and said bye to Nav who had to go to ambala and me and kunal took the diversion to Panchkula.Reached home at around 6:30 and now i am writing this blog so that you can see the journey through this.
BYE till the next ride .
